It’s Saturday night and once again, Harlequin had the pleasure of hosting a New Year’s  fun casino party in Copthorne, West Sussex.

We had a fabulous evening in Southampton last night. About 10 minutes from where Halrequin are based, we took three gorgeous casino tables to the party and entertained 100 guests for the evening. Everyone had a great time, the casino tables were bustling from beginning to end, and there’s never a dull moment when you hire a fun casino. Tonight’s party had a casino theme, but there are so many themes you can work into your fun casino. When I tell people about my business, Harlequin Fun Casino, I get a mix bag of reactions – all of which are positive but are also ranging in their approach. It’s incredible to me that some people have still never come across the concept of a fun casino even now, and I suppose that’s just because they are my whole life, but what’s even more interesting is the reaction I get when I tell people that my most popular bookings are wedding receptions. Again, I’m usually faced with that same mixture of responses, ranging from encouraging smiles, curious head tilts and my favourite reaction of all, the look of genuine surprise! Seriously, I think a lot of people don’t actually believe me! It’s usually the people who have been planning their own weddings in their minds for many years, and who have a very clear idea of what a wedding is (and what it is not) that have trouble getting there heads around the concept. It’s a bit unconventional to have a casino table at a wedding reception, and I think when it comes to wedding entertainment,  a lot of people plan as far as the DJ or band for the night and look no further. I don’t know if the rise in television programmes such as “Don’t tell the bride” or Living TV’s “Four Weddings” have had any kind of impact, but it seems that these days, more and more brides and grooms are looking for new ways to keep heir guests entertained on their wedding day. For many people, music and lighting just isn’t enough, and they’re really starting to think about those guests who for whatever reason, are not likely to be dancing. I think it’s lovely that couples are trying to bend the “rules” a little bit and branch out with their wedding entertainment – after all, whoever said there were rules to follow anyway? It’s your wedding – you should be able to do it how you want, not how you’re expected to!

That said, I must admit, when I started the company myself, I had envisaged corporate events and charity fundrisers, wedding receptions were not in the forefront of my mind. These days, however, at least 70% of all of my casino nights are wedding receptions, and between May and August, that figure goes up to about 90%. This suits me right down to the ground, as I have to admit, weddings are my favourite of all fun casino bookings. Having been in a relationship for the last nine years (we are now in our tenth year) I am always looking for new ideas for my big day (if and when it arrives) so I am a genuine fan of weddings in the first place. But more than that, I love love LOVE to attend weddings with my casino tables, because everybody there is there to have a great night. It’s an atmosphere unlike any other, and because of the buzz that’s created around a casino table, the natural high everyone’s experiencing is heightened all the more. I could do weddings exclusively, I really could. Not that I don’t love birthday parties and charity balls and all the other fab events I have the pleasure of attending – but just because I am a very social and thoroughly nosy human being, so I love the closeness you feel from the guests at a wedding.  So if you know of anyone who’s organising a wedding and you think they’re the kind of people who might like to do something a bit special for the evening reception, send them in my direction and I’ll make sure they have a night to remember!
